The Honorary British Consulate in Tórshavn appears to be a branch of Intersport.

Føroya Landsbókasavn – the National Library of the Faroe Islands. On a slightly different scale to the one back home, but it has a charm.

The Faroese Premier League (Formuladeildin) – this is the mighty B36 (from Tórshavn) against B71 (from Sandoy). The stand here is the away stand – the stand I was in was much more full. But this is to be expected, as only like 1,000 people live on Sandoy :) B36 won, with the only goal being scored by an Englishman (not me).

Shattered, but very happy at the end of a long, but good, day.

Friday, September 26, 2008

Saw this picture of the Faroese Simpsons at an exhibition (I was on the way somewhere else!) and thought it deserved a photo.

Tórshavn, with Nólsoy in the background (I had to do a huge walk to get this one!)

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

Jacobina and me went to the Faroese national broadcaster to record our talks (see here). Behind the cameras it’s not as glamorous as you’d think...

Tuesday, September 23, 2008

Out and about on the streets of Tórshavn with Jolly Light, the Faroese version of Diet Coke (Don’t worry, they have Diet Coke, but Jolly’s cheaper, as it doesn’t need to be imported. And it’s good too!)

Look what I got! This will only make sense if you’ve seen this – and maybe not even then.

This is my jean-covered leg. It’s a long story.

I had to battle the elements to get this one... This is Norðurlandahúsið or the 'Nordic House', which was built to show Faroese solidarity and common heritage with the other Scandinavian countries - and it's actually pretty cool. The granite on the floor comes from Norway, the chairs are made of Finnish birch, the wooden panels are from Sweden, the glass and steel are Danish, the roof construction is Icelandic, the architects are Norwegian and Icelandic and the turf roof is Faroese. Pretty cool. Although it does look better when it's not getting dark and raining. (The building is much more impressive than it looks here - I'll try to get a good photo in the light.)

This is what John looks like when he’s walked a really long way to take a photo of something, and on the way it’s got really dark and now the thing he wanted to take a photo of won’t come out.

The village of Viðareiði on Viðoy. As we were driving along, the bus driver saw I was taking photos through the window, stopped the bus, and shouted 'Photo Stop!' He actually let me get out to take some photos - how nice was that? Can you imagine that in London? He probably would have said 'Could you please put that camera away, sir, it's against health and safety regulations/my human rights', etc. ;)

Tórshavn's beautiful old town... I realise that this photo blog might start to turn into an advert for the Faroe Islands Tourist Board, but I'm aware of that. It's just quite a photogenic place...

Tuesday, September 16, 2008

John looked out over his new home and saw that it was good.

The Faroe Islands through the clouds.

Had a great little leaving bash tonight – I’m only away for a little while, so there were no tears (they could have at least tried!) but it was exactly what I needed at the end of a big ol’ day.

Birthdays! (Where’s John? Can you see him?)

Friday, September 12, 2008

When I was watching Batman Begins with my brother a couple of weeks ago, one scene came up and I was like ‘That’s my university!’ – so here’s where the courtroom scenes were filmed.

Stuck in France. Due to the Channel Tunnel fire (remember when they used to try to get us to say ‘Chunnel’?), my Dad’s stuck in France...

Wednesday, September 10, 2008

Today I caught up with Matt who was my best friend throughout most of senior school – we always used to spend our Saturdays together making each other laugh so much we’d cry. It was fantastic catching up with him again, and we’ll really have to do it more often!

Ruben playing with the remote-control spider at Harrods.

Sunday, September 7, 2008

On the way home from Heather's birthday meal, the girls didn't really appreciate mine and Ben's version of Your Song.

Saturday, September 6, 2008

They've taken all his hair off!

Friday, September 5, 2008

You, John Mitchinson, are an idiot.

Thursday, September 4, 2008

I got me a webcam!

Wednesday, September 3, 2008

Rise's. Are you kidding me?

Tuesday, September 2, 2008

I'm not going to elaborate, but oh how I am grateful for you, my old friend!

Monday, September 1, 2008

Again I had to tell Patrick off for not smiling, but he got it in the end (pretty much)...
